11:30 am - Cycling / Duns

Last month, James and I cycled from Melbourne to Sydney via the Princes Highway. It took 8 days. I made the mistake of doing it on a fixed gear 1973 Raleigh. My legs were quite sore.
Also last month, I made a new EP. It features bits of what is now an almost proper band - Duns.

Well it's April, but never mind.
I made an album. It's called "Cowardly Attack". I'm finishing the artwork at present and will have it all pressed and done soon as that stimulus money arrives. And will do some sort of launch show in May. You can download it here. You probably won't like it.
Nat and Celeste and Steve and I made Darren Hanlon a video clip in 4 hours late one Sunday night. It's the "Indie clip of the week" on ABCTV's rage. Will be on late tonight and early tomorrow and probably the next week, too.
I'm also selling my Sony Handycam HDR-HC5E miniDV HD video camera. If you'd like to buy it, let me know.

2:27 am - FESTIVE PERIOD LOCATIONS

Marrakech was warm, and had lots of donkeys who made exactly the noise they're supposed to.
Berlin was cold, but full of interesting things and new drunken friends. That's me on a bike, next to the Berlin wall. What a bloody tourist.
Glasgow was cold too, and we met lots of people from bands who I'd have wet myself over meeting, were I still 21.
We spent Christmas in a cottage in Ireland, where we were force-fed very expensive wine by my grandmother's very favourite soap star.
Last night I ate black pudding stew, and today I walked up a mountain and tomorrow I begin meandering home and on Friday night I hope to have a pint in Collingwood by 11pm.
Giving up drinking didn't work.

i was feeling self-consious about tufts at the back.
i found that by sticking a wide strip of masking tape from earlobe to earlobe, i was able to trim the back of my own neck with clippers.
tomorrow i'm going to build a spaceship out of cardboard. which is what i'd planned to do tonight, but got distracted.

goes really fast.
requires: new pedals, a brake.

5:53 pm - BUY MY CAR

hello and happy new year.
i bought a car on ebay a couple of months ago, on a whim. i figured i'd fix the handful of things that need fixing and drive it to the country a couple of times a year. i found, though, that i've no enthusiasm for fixing cars. i rush things and get irritable, unlike when i fix bicycles, which is a task i greatly enjoy and can devote much time and effort to.
as i don't really need a car, i'd like to sell it, or swap it for a small motorbike or a piano.
it's a 1980 gemini, and has had no modifications made in 28 years. it's done barely any kilometres and runs amazingly well. the interior is in perfect condition besides a small tear in one seat. it's got a cute sun visor.
bad things: it has a few rust spots, and a fair bit of rust in the boot. nothing too difficult or expensive to fix, though. there are also a handful of minor things that need replacing in order to get a roadworthy (the mechanic said they'd amount to less than $100 in parts), and it's not currently registered.

12:04 am - year
|
i don't much want to dwell upon the year about to end. 2007 began and is ending well, and there have been good times and there's been growth, but i wouldn't describe it as a good year.
i ended a relationship with a good person, and that action placed me in a funk for a large portion of the year. the decisions may not be regretted (i was a bad partner), but the fact things couldn't be returned to their former state caused much anguish.
i've lost touch with good friends this year, but have made new friends. some of whom are incredibly inspiring, talented people. it's taken me until this age to properly realise that most things in life are quite readily achievable with some hard work and the right people to assist. i'm quite looking forward to 2008 being a productive year.

my inspiring, talented friend nat asked if i'd like to be a ghoul in a music video she was shooting. so i spent all saturday night running about a paddock on an alpaca farm, wearing a cardboard box on my head and waving a rake about the air. watch a bit of mtv in february and you might see me.
this weekend is meredith. i'm working in the ferris wheel ticket box 2am - 7am sunday morning. come say hi, if you're going. and there's space in the car if you need a lift. i'm making a camp dodo because the owl's gone awol.
not sure if this journal's worth it any more, really.

no idea who that guy is. no idea who half the hundreds of people who came to our party last week were. but it was damn good fun. worth the $551 fine we got for making too much racket. there's going to be a quiet-music fundraiser party/show in a couple of weeks in aid of paying the police. more details as they come to hand.
free die!die!die! show last night was very odd. each beer at the bar came with a free bottle of bourbon & coke. horrid. only just worth it for the fun time band.
i just bought 3 lounge suites. which i'm now thinking was rather excessive.

7:52 pm - reunion plus fat animal

yesterday evening i made the trek to upper ferntree gully in order to attend my 10 year high school reunion. it's a little strange how some people age greatly yet others seem barely days older. lots of people were fatter, some taller, many married, many had bought their own homes, most still live in the outer east and a scary number have kids or near-bursting bellies. an old crush was quashed entirely, and it seems the people i spoke to least in high school are the ones with whom i get along best, ten years later.
also.
rabbit bit fatty in the bum. fatty's not happy about the neckbucket.
